MartinBauer Details
Welcome to the MartinBauer Details Page. This is where the expression of art and architecture meets the game of pool. The Detail Panels will describe the standards to which the Tournament Table is designed, and the reasons why the components on the table are chosen.
The Game Room panel will outline the preferred room conditions for the optimum performance of your table.
Standards
The MartinBauer Tournament Table is designed to the equipment specifications set forth by the Billiard Congress of America. The BCA, headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado, is one of several reputable industry organizations that govern the sport of professional billiards. Their activities include the sanctioning of championships for professional and amateur players as well as promoting cue sports worldwide through industry research and promotion.
Table
The standard MartinBauer Tournament Table is a 9’ table. Recognized table sizes are typically 7’ x 3.5’, 8’ x 4’ and 9’ x 4.5’ with the actual Play Area measuring twice as long as it is wide from the cloth covered nose of the cushion rubber to the opposite cushion rubber.
Nine Foot tables with a Play Area 50”x100” is the recognized size for professional tournament play.
See Game Room panel to see what size room is best suited for this table.
Slate
The 3-piece 1” slate used on a MartinBauer Tournament Table comes from Italy. Italian slate is regarded as superior slate for billiard tables for its geological qualities including moisture content and flexibility. The Carlo Giuffra Ardesie slate we use has several advantages such as pockets custom finished by hand, sections that are joined and matched perfectly for thickness and flatness, and a playing surface that is perfectly diamond gauged. With multiple quality inspections, it is a clear choice.
Bumpers
One of the components in the production of billiard tables that rarely gets mentioned is the rubber. Often referred to as a bumper or the cushions, it is important to have a responsive rebound action that will be consistant and reliable. MartinBauer uses the K-66 rubbers from Artemis. Made in Germany, these are the highest quality available. The K-66 style allows for a medium range speed and more accuracy off the rubber.
Lighting
The MartinBauer Tournament Table incorporates a new lighting technology called Plexineon from iLight Technologies. Plexineon is a complete lighting system applying LED’s in a new way. Made of durable composite materials, it has the appearance and brightness of neon. It is one of the first LED-based technologies to emit even light and compares with neon in its LUX output. This assures the ambient lighting emitting below the slate will perform perfectly for years to come. Several colors are available for selection.
Game Room
Minimum room size is based on circulation needs and cue stick clearences. Cue sizes are typically 48”, 52”, and 58”. Most likely you will possess a 58” cue, if not for yourself, then for other players. With these conditions, the minimum comfortable room size for the 9’ MartinBauer Tournament Table would be 14’ x 18’.
